Gigi Hadid commented that her family was "terrified" during her home birth.
Gigi Hadid shared new details about the birth of her daughter Kai, her first child with boyfriend Zayn Malik, in a cover interview for the March issue of Vogue (opens in new tab). Hadid revealed that she chose to give birth at home because her mother, Yolanda Hadid, and sister, Bella Hadid, were unable to accompany her to the delivery room due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The supermodel further said that Malik, Yolanda, and Bella were "in terror" when she gave birth.
Gigi told "Vogue" that Malik, Yolanda, Bella, a local midwife, and a midwife's assistant accompanied her when she gave birth without an epidural at her home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, last September. 'I had to dig deep. I knew it was going to be the craziest pain of my life, but I had to surrender to it and think, 'This is it.' I loved that."
"There were definitely times when I thought, 'I wonder what would happen if I had an epidural, what difference would it make,'" Gigi added. The midwife looked at me and said, 'You can do it. No one can help you. No one can help you, the epidural is useless anyway, so you're going to push exactly the same way in the hospital bed.
When Gigi gave birth, her family said they were terrified, and Malik likened the experience to a scene from a nature documentary he had seen; Z said, 'I felt the same way! I feel helpless when I see someone I love suffering,'" Gigi said.
"I know my mom and Zane and Bella were proud of me, but at one point I saw each of them terrified," the supermodel shared. After it was over, Z and I looked at each other and were like, "It would be nice to have a little time before we do it again."
[10Ultimately, Gigi said, Kai's birth went exactly as she had hoped. "She brightened up so much right away," she told the magazine." That is what I wanted for her, to bring about a peaceful world."
