Who is Alev Aydin, the father of Horsey's first child?
Thanks to the months many of us spent cooped up at home waiting for the COVID-19 craze, there is no doubt that we are in the midst of a celebrity baby boom (opens in new tab). Every few days (if not sooner), a new celebrity reveals on Instagram that she is pregnant or, in a surprising case, introduces a newborn baby that was not even revealed to be born. After almost a year of quarantine, such announcements have become so routine that I myself thought I could no longer be surprised by any celebrity's impending motherhood - that is, until Halsey joined this club (opens in new tab).
Dropped haphazardly on Instagram and Twitter on a random Wednesday morning, the singer's announcement evoked a shock and awe that such announcements lacked. Not only did Halsey keep her growing belly well away from prying eyes and online speculation, but she has not been in a very public relationship for some time now. Her pregnancy announcement also served as an announcement of her burgeoning relationship with Alev Aydin, who was tagged in the post. So who is this mystery man?" here is everything we know about Aydin, who has been a fixture in Hollywood for over a decade.
Aydin's IMDb page (opens in new tab) has a long list of credits as actor, director, producer, and screenwriter. His acting credits go back to a few appearances in "General Hospital" between 2008 and 2010, but most of his work has been done behind the camera: in addition to starring in the 2013 drama film "Lonely Boy," he also wrote and executive produced the film. More recently, he is credited as creator, writer, and executive producer of the 2017 comedy series "Small Shots," about two friends trying to make it big in Hollywood, and as writer, director, and producer of the short film "HipMen: Los Angeles," about a team of assassins
Idi Amin.
Aydin's creative eye is further demonstrated on his Instagram, which seems to function primarily as an artist's mood board. His feed is a charming blend of vintage photos, childhood snapshots, movie stills, and travel photos, with the occasional selfie inserted for balance.
Aydin and the artist formerly known as Ashley Frangipane have been friends for quite some time, as evidenced by a post he shared in March 2019 commemorating sitting courtside together at a Lakers game. That game took place in January of that year (open in new tab), so if the two had been "attending high-profile events together" by then, it is safe to assume that the two had been friends since at least late 2018, if not longer.
"Back when I did a very cool thing I'll prob never get to do again - massive thanks @iamhalsey for the courtside experience," Aydin wrote in a throwback post with the She captioned it. (Open in new tab)
It's not clear when Aydin and Halsey's relationship went from friendship to something more, but the first sign of the latter came last June when the two got matching tattoos, a rite of passage in celebrity romance. Photos from that occasion (open in new tab) show that they both have "seeds" tattooed on their feet.
A few months later, just before Halloween, Halsey and Aydin were spotted shopping for art supplies at the Blick Art Materials store in L.A., The Daily Mail reported in October (opens in new tab). And on New Year's Eve, Halsey sent her new boyfriend a sweet shout-out on Instagram, writing (opens in new tab) "Thank you for this year and every year, Sweets, for you," over a collage of photos of the two of them together. She added the phrase "I love you so much" in Turkish, which seems to be a tribute to Aydin's Turkish roots.
