Prince Harry surprises Joe Biden at his inauguration

Prince Harry may not have attended the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, but he still made a surprise appearance.

According to a CNN report (opens in new tab), Biden and Harris visited Arlington National Cemetery after taking the oath of office and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior with former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton. According to a report in The Independent (opens in new tab), Biden spoke with Bill and Hillary Clinton in the cemetery's memorial exhibit. Clinton staffer John Davidson posted a photo of their conversation on Twitter with the caption, "It's a new day in America."

Royal fans were quick to note one detail in the background: a large photo of Prince Harry in his British Army uniform. According to The Independent, the photo was taken during Harry's 2013 visit to Arlington National Cemetery. See:

Harry and Biden have actually met (opens in new tab): they first met when Harry visited the US in 2013, and Jill Biden reportedly attended the first Invictus Games in London in 2014. Jill and Joe Biden then attended the 2016 and 2017 Invictus Games in Orlando and Toronto, respectively.

In fact, at the 2016 Orlando Games, the then-future president joked about Harry and Jill's close bond. "Jill went to London for the last Games," he said. She spent too much time with Prince Harry."
