Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Celebrate Martin Luther King Day by Donating Lunch to Volunteers
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry donated lunch to volunteers at a veterans' charity working in Compton, Calif. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sent a handwritten note of "thanks and appreciation" to the volunteers of The Mission Continues (opens in new tab), a charity that organizes veterans to volunteer in their communities.
The Mission Continues took to Twitter (opens in new tab) to share photos of volunteers receiving donated lunches and notes from Meghan and Harry. 'We are honored to have the support of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Arch Cherwell Foundation. They provided lunch yesterday for our LA Service Platoon volunteers and we are so grateful to them.
According to The Mission Continues website, volunteers are deployed in "service platoons" to "improve educational resources, address food insecurity, and foster neighborhood identity."
In a note to the volunteers, the Sussexes wrote, "In honor of this day of service, and in honor of Dr. King and all that he represents, we would like to send our thanks and appreciation to The Mission Continues team." And, "We are proud of all the work you are doing to support our community, and we are so grateful to you and your team for all that you do.
"Thank you for your service today and every day. We look forward to working with you soon!" Megan and Harry write:" Stay safe and keep up the great work." They signed their names "Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex."
