Princess Diana's Ex-Boyfriend Breaks Silence, Talks About Her BBC Interview
Hasnat Khan, the former lover of Princess Diana (opens in new tab) and cardiologist who dated the late Princess Diana from 1995 until shortly before her death in 1997, has broken his silence and opened up about her infamous BBC Panorama interview (opens in new tab).
"One of her most attractive qualities was her vulnerability. It endeared her to the public. I realized later that Martin [Bashir] took advantage of that vulnerability," Khan, now 62, told the Daily Mail (opens in new tab). 'He was very persuasive with Diana. He was from the BBC, he was respectable, even very pious. But he filled her head with nonsense."
According to People (opens in new tab), Khan, who was famously private and rarely spoke publicly about Diana over the years, decided to weigh in on the ongoing controversy surrounding her BBC interview (opens in new tab).
The cardiologist also shared a story about a meeting he sat in on with Diana and Bashir (opens in new tab) prior to the infamous interview.
"Almost from the beginning, he began asking me the most direct and personal questions about Diana and our relationship. Why didn't we get married? When were you going to get married? There was something about Bashir that I didn't like. I told her to be careful with him,' Khan said. 'Of course, I am not naïve. If Martin Bashir had not convinced her, would she have agreed to the interview?'
