Karlie Kloss Says She Tried to 'Convince' Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner's Parents-in-Law

Hours after Trump continued to make baseless claims of election fraud in a speech near the White House, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol (open in new tab) on Wednesday in an attempt to prevent Congress from confirming his defeat by President-elect Joe Biden. After condemning the violence on Twitter, Karlie Kloss, in a rare moment for a model, said she tried to "reason" with her in-laws, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.

Kloss, who married Kushner's brother Joshua in 2018, tweeted Wednesday night: "I'm not a model. Refusing to do so and inciting violence is anti-American."

In a now-deleted tweet, a Twitter user replied, "Tell my sister and brother-in-law." Trump's daughters Ivanka and Jared have remained supporters of the outgoing president since 2017, with Ivanka serving as presidential advisor and Jared as senior presidential advisor. Cross, who has rarely spoken out against her in-laws, responded, "I tried."

When Trump supporters stormed Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Ivanka called them "American patriots" in a tweet (open in new tab) that she later deleted. She wrote: "American patriots - security violations and disrespect for law enforcement are unacceptable. Violence must stop immediately. Please be peaceful," he tweeted.

Asked by White House correspondent Kate Bennett to clarify whether she considered the rioters "patriots," Ivanka replied, "No, peaceful protest is patriotic. Violence is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest terms."

Cross has yet to explicitly condemn Ivanka and Jared, but in a July 2019 interview with British Vogue (opens in new tab), she indicated that she did not share their politics. 'It was hard,' she told the magazine. 'But I choose to focus on the values I share with my husband. They are the same liberal values that I was raised with and that have guided me throughout my life."
