Documentary on Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry's Mental Health Postponed Again

The year 2020 was not exactly a productive one, with closed-off workplaces, Zoom calls over unstable WiFi, and bedrooms that were hastily transformed into offices. So it is hardly surprising that, like literally every other project in the world, Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry's mental health documentary series (opens in new tab) has been postponed.

Oprah and Harry had announced a multi-part TV show on mental illness and mental health to air on Apple TV+ in April 2019, with a fall 2020 premiere. However, as reported by The Sun (opens in new tab), both the COVID-19 pandemic and Harry's departure as a royal executive have delayed production, and the show is now expected to drop in "late 2021." Well, given that 2020 has taught us saintly levels of patience, we can probably wait a little longer!

The upcoming documentary series was first announced on April 10, 2019 on Harry and Meghan Markle's new Instagram account, @sussexroyal." We are excited to announce that the Duke of Sussex and Oprah Winfrey are partners, co-creators, and executive producers of the upcoming mental health series launching on Apple in 2020." A post shared on the account said." The two have been developing the series for several months and are looking forward to sharing such an important project on this global platform."

"This dynamic multi-part documentary series will focus on both mental illness and mental health, inspiring viewers to have honest conversations about the challenges each of us faces and how to equip ourselves with the tools to not just survive, but thrive! The presentation continued."

In his statement, Harry said, "I truly believe that good mental health, or emotional health, is the key to powerful leadership, productive communities, and a purposeful self. In these times, we have a great responsibility to get this right by bringing you the facts, the science, and the awareness on this subject." [Our hope is that the series will be positive, enlightening, and inclusive, sharing a global story of the incomparable human spirit fighting back from the darkest places and giving us the opportunity to better understand ourselves and those around us," Harry added. 'I am so proud to be working with Oprah on this important series.'
