Meghan Markle wants to write a novel next, royal official says
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry (opens in new tab) have already made many plans for life after the throne. This year, the couple signed a major production deal with Netflix (opens in new tab) to develop all content for the streaming giant. They also signed with the prestigious Harry Walker Agency (opens in new tab), booked speaking engagements, launched the nonprofit Archewell (opens in new tab), and announced plans for a podcast with Spotify (opens in new tab). So what else do they want to put on their already very full plate? Fiction writing, apparently.
According to a new report in the Daily Mail (opens in new tab), Princess Meghan in particular (opens in new tab) may have her sights set on writing a novel next.
"Fiction is something she has always wanted to try, and you can be sure that whatever she writes will sell well, regardless of its quality," a royal source said.
"Fiction, whether it's a book for children or adults, will be a powerful way to get their brand message across."
If Princess Meghan were to write a book of fiction, she would be following in the footsteps of another senior royal, her father-in-law, Prince Charles (opens in new tab).
According to the Daily Mail, Prince Charles published a children's book titled The Old Man of Lochnagar (opens in new tab) in 1980. Prince Charles apparently originally created the story for his younger brothers, Prince Andrew (open in new tab) and Prince Edward (open in new tab), while on vacation in Balmoral. Proceeds from the book were donated to the Prince's Trust (open in new tab) charity.
Speculation from unnamed sources is not the only suggestion that Princess Meghan may be writing a novel; according to the Mail, one of the provisions of a document filed by Archewell (open in new tab) with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states that under the Archewell brand "a variety of topics The company seeks the right to write "books of fiction and non-fiction on a variety of topics" and the right to produce "general feature magazines and printed periodicals."
And, of course, there is Princess Meghan's writing background, which was established even before her relationship with Harry.
[14] "Meghan also has experience as a writer, and before she met Harry she had a popular blog called 'The Tig' that covered health, travel, food and fashion," the Mail's sources explained.
