Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Archwell Foundation Partners with World Central Kitchen
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Archwell Foundation (opens in new tab) has a new partner: the World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit organization founded by renowned chef José Andrés that helps communities around the world, especially According to a Bloomberg report (opens in new tab), Meghan and Harry will fund four "Community Relief Centers" for the nonprofit organization. The first centers will be opened in Dominica and Puerto Rico, which were severely damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
World Central Kitchen, founded in 2010, has served 50 million meals in 17 countries. According to its website (opens in new tab), this year the nonprofit has provided food to restaurants during a coronavirus pandemic, served meals on the Colombian islands of San Andres and Providencia after Hurricane Iota, and helped to provide food to people in rescued and provided food after it struck Honduras and Guatemala, fed firefighters and locals during wildfires in Australia, and fed people waiting at polling places during the U.S. presidential and senatorial elections.
"The health of our community depends on our ability to connect with the humanity we share," Meghan and Harry said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg.
"When I think about Chef Andres and his amazing team at World Central Kitchen, I am reminded of the many amazing people who work tirelessly and with a willingness to support one another, even in years of unimaginable hardship. World Central Kitchen inspires us through compassion in action."The Sussexes told Bloomberg that they hope to bring more partners to World Central Kitchen so that the nonprofit can build more community relief centers. They also said they would visit the completed center in the future after the COVID-19 epidemic subsides.
Andres, nominated for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize, told Bloomberg, "We are more energized than ever to continue this important work." I am proud to join hands with the Archelwell Foundation and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. I know them both well and believe that their values are in direct alignment with what World Central Kitchen stands for."
