The Queen's Christmas tree is decorated with little crowns instead of baubles

When Kate Middleton and Prince William were reunited with the Queen outside Windsor Castle on Monday, bloggers Tom and Lorenzo noticed an interesting detail. Coming from someone who reportedly spends close to $40,000 (open in new tab) on Christmas gifts for staff and family every year, they would be taking it lightly if they didn't say that the Queen takes Christmas seriously.

This detail was caught by Tom and Lorenzo on Twitter.

"Just noticed a small crown ornament on a tree outside Windsor Castle.

Interestingly, this is not the first time the Queen has decorated the tree with crowns. Last year, Buckingham Palace released a photo (opens in new tab) of the Queen, along with the next three heirs to the throne, making Christmas pudding for charity. At the back was a tree, beautifully decorated with crowns, thrones, and miniature corgi ornaments!

Unfortunately, the Queen's Christmas decorations are not for everyone to see this year, as the monarch and Prince Philip are adhering to COVID-19 guidelines. A palace spokesman told People (opens in new tab), "After considering all appropriate advice, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have decided to spend Christmas quietly in Windsor this year."

This means that the annual Christmas Day walk to church (opens in new tab), which the Royal Family does every year while celebrating at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, is a no-no for the two.

"They are happy to spend Christmas with the family every year, but understand that the family has competing demands over the Christmas period and are content to have a quieter festive season this year," a second source told the magazine. The official added, "Like everyone else, their hope is that peace will return in 2021."

So are we, Elizabeth!
