Chrissy Teigen supports parents struggling with breastfeeding: "Normalizing formula."
Chrissy Teigen spoke out on Twitter (opens in new tab) on Sunday in support of parents who are unable to breastfeed, reflecting on her own experiences and the "shame" and "guilt" of struggling with breastfeeding." OK, I'm going to say something, and you guys are definitely going to make it a thing, but here goes: normalize formula," she tweeted. 'Normalizing breastfeeding is such a big, wonderful thing. But I definitely felt more shame in having to use formula because of depression or something that was preventing me from breastfeeding."
"All I hear as a person with a surrogate mother, as a person struggling with breastfeeding, as a new and anxious mom," Teigen continued, "is how breast milk is best." The 'normalization of breastfeeding' is great. 'Normalizing formula' is great, too! Oh yes, that's it! Normalization of formula! Your baby will be beautiful, perfect, and okay."
Teigen further described her painful experience of trying to breastfeed and the "stress" and "guilt" that resulted. She remembers "pumping my bum in the highest mode, frequently, because I couldn't believe that if I breastfed, my milk would be in my child's mouth."
She tweeted."The stress of it all, combined with the guilt of not being able to do the natural and most natural thing for my baby, is just too hard," she concluded.
"I don't know why this is my crusade. I just want you to remember the grief I felt and know that if you are nourishing your baby, it's the right thing to do, Mom."
