Jessica Mulroney says Meghan Markle always checks in on FaceTime
Jessica Mulroney (opens in new tab) said she remains close to Meghan Markle.
Earlier this year, Mulroney was at the center of a scandal when she was accused of using her white privilege (opens in new tab) to undermine the career prospects of black influencer Sasha Exeter. But as much (if not more) talked about as the scandal itself was the impact it may have had on Marlony and Meghan's longtime friendship.
Meghan was reportedly "mortified" (open new tab) by the scandal, while Marlony was first "concerned" (open new tab) about her friendship with the royal family (open new tab) and then "distraught" (open new tab) that it had been marred by this incident.
During the scandal, Marlony was accused of using his friendship with Meghan as a "superpower" to protect himself from criticism when he indirectly referenced Meghan's own struggle against racism in his apology. Mulroney strongly objected to such characterizations and responded unequivocally in an interview with the New York Post.
"CTV asked me to come on the show and talk about Princess Meghan, but I refused," Marlonie explained (opens in new tab). 'I don't call it ESP. It's about protecting my friends."
And as for the speculation (opens in new tab) that the scandal destroyed her friendship with Princess Meghan, Mulroney made it clear that it did not.
"She's always checking up on me on FaceTimes," Mulroney said in an interview, adding that she has learned from difficult situations. 'I lead a charmed life. But I am not a racist. I just want to move on from this."
