Prince Harry and Meghan Markle report miscarriage to royal family before paper is published.
This week, Meghan Markle (opens in new tab) revealed in a deeply personal op-ed for The New York Times (opens in new tab) that she suffered a pregnancy loss earlier this year.
Megan opened up about the experience, which she described as "almost unbearable grief," and wrote candidly about the moment in July when she felt "sharp cramps" while holding her 1-year-old son Archie (opens in new tab) at home in California.
"I collapsed to the floor with my son in my arms and belted out a lullaby to calm us both, its cheerful tune in contrast to my sense that something was wrong. As I held my first child in my arms, I knew I was losing my second," she writes. "Hours later, I lay in my hospital bed, holding my husband's hand. I felt the touch of his palm and kissed his knuckles, both of us wet with tears. My eyes were slack as I stared at the cold white walls. I tried to imagine how I could heal."
Most of the world only learned of Harry and Meghan's loss when the editorial was published, but "Entertainment Tonight" reported that the couple made sure to discuss their pregnancy loss with the royal family before speaking publicly. et online by (opens in new tab):
"Before the story was published, Prince Harry discussed Princess Meghan's miscarriage with his family, ET said. The Duke and Duchess also knew at the time of the loss that their story was something they wanted to finally share publicly. Now seemed to be the right time to do so."
According to "People" (opens in new tab), sources close to the royal family said it was a sad time for the entire family.
"There is a lot of sadness around the family," a palace source said.
Our thoughts are with Meghan, Harry, Archie, and all of their friends and loved ones.
