Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, calls out "The Crown".

"The Crown" (opens in new tab) may be the TV show half the world (opens in new tab) is currently watching, but it is somewhat less popular among actual royalty, including Princess Diana's brother, Count Charles Spencer (opens in new tab). The show's fourth season details Princess Diana's struggles as a new member of the monarchy, and Prince Charles is not happy with his sister's portrayal.

Appearing on the British television program "Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh" on Sunday, Charles said that "The Crown" should not be viewed as a historical record. He said, "What worries me is that people will watch a show like that and forget that it's fiction. Foreigners, in particular, tell me that they watched 'The Crown' as if they had a history lesson. Well, they didn't," he said. [You can put it on top of the facts, but the in-between part is not true," Charles continued.

Indeed, the production team for "The Crown" revealed that they had asked the Earl of Spencer for permission to film at Althorpe House, the residence of the Spencer family and where Princess Diana and Prince Charles spent their childhoods. In fact, 'The Crown' asked if they could film at Althorpe, and I said obviously no," he said.

Charles went on to say that he felt obligated to protect Diana's legacy. 'For example, she left me as guardian of her sons. We grew up together. If you grow up with someone, they are who they are. So I feel very passionately that I have a role in honoring her memory."
