Moving to California (open in new tab) has given Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (open in new tab) the freedom to volunteer quietly (open in new tab) in their own way, avoiding the hordes of photographers who stalk them on their every outing in the UK. In fact, Harry and Meghan are so adept at the art of volunteering in private that their efforts are often covered by the media much later--as when Harry volunteered at a veterans charity in Compton in southern Los Angeles County last week.

The Walker Family Events Foundation (opens in new tab), which provides assistance to veterans and their families facing or experiencing homelessness in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteered last week at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization in Compton, where Harry and released two photos of him helping to pack and deliver food to local people in need." Today I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex." He volunteered at Compton VFW for the 'Operation Nourish' program, packing and distributing food to his neighbors in #Compton. He is very humble and kind."

In photos, the Duke of Sussex wears a khaki polo shirt with a matching baseball cap, blue straight cut jeans and New Balance sneakers. In one photo, he is standing by a trestle table covered with plastic bags.

This is not the first time the Sussexes have helped distribute food and other items to those in need; in April, Harry and Meghan delivered meals on behalf of Project Angel Food, a Los Angeles charity that provides meals to those critically ill with AIDS and other health issues (opens new tab) They delivered the meals (opens in new tab). Meanwhile, in August, they worked at a drive-through distribution center (opens in new tab) sponsored by the children's charity Baby2Baby, where they distributed school supplies, food, clothing, and hygiene items to local students and their families.
