Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, reveals rare photos from his childhood.
Princess Diana's younger brother, Prince Charles, Earl of Spencer, posted a sweet photo from his childhood on Twitter on Saturday. In the photo, which Prince Charles did not date or caption, Princess Diana is wearing a pink gingham dress with her arm around her brother, while Prince Charles is wearing a polo shirt and shorts.
Charles' tweet came amid an ongoing conflict with the BBC over Diana's explosive 1995 interview with journalist Martin Bashir. Count Spencer claims that the BBC used "fake bank statements and other deceptions" to persuade Diana to participate in the interview, reports the Guardian (opens in new tab).
In September, Prince Charles told The Sunday Times about the childhood trauma he and Diana experienced after the separation of their parents, John and Frances Spencer (opens in new tab). 'Diana and I had two older sisters, and she went to school. 'Our father was a quiet, constant source of love, but our mother was not fit to give birth. It wasn't her fault.
"While I was packing my bags to leave, I promised Diana (then 5 years old) that I would come back to see her. Diana used to wait for her at the door, but she never came," he continued.
"Diana heard me crying in the hallway, but she didn't come to me because she was afraid of the dark.""I have been in and out of therapy for 20 years. Last year I did a lot of very deep work on my unhappy childhood. 'I'm not saying that out of self-pity. But the result was cathartic. It was nice to come out the other side."
