Dave Chappelle gets very serious about the state of the country in his "SNL" monologue.
Dave Chappelle opened the first post-2020 election episode of Saturday Night Live last night with a 16-minute standup set in place of his traditional monologue.
Chappelle took the stage and delivered an unreserved monologue that took aim at the coronavirus, Donald Trump, and the state of life in America today. Here are some highlights:
"He called the coronavirus canker sores. I said, 'You racist, jolly son of a bitch!' He said, 'I'm not a racist. That's what I should say, not what you should say! I said, 'You're wrong to say that. And you know what Trump did after that? He contracted the coronavirus. What was that? When he contracted the coronavirus, you said everything on the news about it. Do you know what they didn't say?
"To all of you who are celebrating, remember that you are humble winners. I want you to remember what it was like when I was here four years ago. I want you to remember that half the country still feels that way now. I want you to remember that. Remember that for the first time in American history, life expectancy for whites is falling. It's because of heroin and suicide. Whites who are feeling the anguish and pain... Let me tell you. I know exactly how you feel.
"You are a police officer. Every time you put on the uniform, you feel like you have a target on your back. You are appalled at the ungratefulness of the people you risk your life to save. Oh, come on. Believe me. I know that feeling. We all know the feeling. But here's the difference between you and me. You hate each other. I don't hate anyone. I just hate the feeling. I fight over it. I hope you will do the same. You have to find a way to live your life. You have to find a way to forgive each other. You have to find a way to find joy in your existence despite those feelings."
