Young Prince William to Prince Charles: "Why do you keep making Mommy cry?"

Well, this is incredibly sad. The troubled relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana (opens in new tab) had a profound effect on their sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, according to royal biographer Robert Lacey in his new book, Battle of Brothers. And young William reportedly argued fiercely with his father and took his mother's side when conflict arose between the parents.

"Daddy, I hate you. I hate you," Lacey claims that William once shouted at Charles, according to Us Weekly (opens in new tab). In addition, William asked, "Why do you always make Mommy cry?"

She reportedly said, "I don't know.

In a 1995 BBC Panorama interview (opens in new tab) with journalist Martin Bashir, Diana discussed how she explained her divorce from Charles to her sons. She said, "William asked me if I could answer his questions about what happened, and I did. He said, 'Is that why our marriage fell apart?' And I replied, 'There were three of us in this marriage, and media pressure was a factor, so it was very difficult for the two of us to stay together. But I still loved my dad, but I couldn't live under the same roof with him, and I couldn't live with him the same way."[5

Diana also revealed that she gave William profound advice (opens in new tab) about his future love life." I went to school and told William in particular that if you find the love of your life, you have to hang on to it and take care of it," she said. 'And if you are fortunate enough to find someone who loves you, you must protect them.'
