Prince Harry was treated as a "spare" by the Royal Family, biographer claims.
Prince Harry was treated more poorly by the royal family than Prince William because he was not heir to the throne, Robert Lacey, royal historian and author of The Battle of the Brothers, claimed in a recent interview. Harry and William were treated similarly as children, Lacey said, but as Harry grew up, he was "pushed further and further out" of the royal family.
Appearing on the "Pod Save the Queen" podcast, Lacey noted that, as reported by the Express (opens in new tab), Harry was the "spare" while William was the heir, which had a direct impact on how the royal family treated Harry The paper noted. 'William has been treated more gently than Harry, but that has always been the fate of spares. Harry, sadly, follows in the tradition of number two's like Princess Margaret and Prince Andrew."
"When they are born, young, and children, spares are always close to the center of things, and it is their fate to always be pushed to the outside throughout their lives," he continued.
"In technical terms, of course, they move down the line of succession to the throne. Harry is right next to William, but he is sixth, seventh, eighth, and so on. Currently, Harry is sixth in line of succession to the throne, behind Prince Charles, Prince William, and William's children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis (opens in new tab).
