Melania Trump takes her hands off Donald Trump after the debate.

First lady Melania Trump was not pleased when President Donald Trump tried to walk off stage holding her hand after last night's debate with Democratic candidate Joe Biden. People on Twitter noticed the moment and filmed Melania forcibly pulling her husband's hand away. As several have noted, this is not the first time Melania has been filmed refusing to hold Donald's hand or pulling her own hand away:

Footage of similar incidents has spread over the years and made media headlines (opens in new tab), including a May 2017 There's also one from May (opens in new tab):

and one from February 2018 (opens in new tab) when Melania uses her coat to avoid holding hands:

Melania rejects the gesture altogether in August 2020:

But perhaps Melania's biggest controversy this month is her remarks in an audio secretly recorded by her former aide and friend, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, and released by Wolkoff in early October.

At one point, Melania talks with Donald about the criticism she received for the president's separation of migrant children at the border. She said to Wolkoff: "I'm not a fan of him. I am like him and I support him. I am like him and I support him.

Melania added: "I'm all about Christmas. Who cares about Christmas or decorations?

Wolkoff confirmed that she did, and Melania said: 'Okay, and I do that, and I say I'm working on Christmas and planning for Christmas and they say, "Oh, what about the children they separated? Give me a break. Where were they when Obama did that? I was trying to reunite my children with their mother. I never had a chance. (Incidentally, CNN (open in new tab) states that Obama's policy was to separate children only "if authorities have concerns about the child's well-being" or "if legal guardians cannot be identified.")
