Billie Eilish and her fans react to singer receiving body shaming
Billie Eilish (opens in new tab) has always made it clear how much she hates body shaming (opens in new tab). Sadly, the 18-year-old was herself cruelly bullied online this week when she was photographed in a rare bagless outfit. She was photographed out in LA wearing a tank top, beige jogger shorts, and sliders in the same neutral color. Since Eilish is usually photographed in her trademark baggy attire, the trolls took the opportunity to make fun of her body. Fortunately, the singer's many fans were there to reveal the identity of the critics.
On Twitter, one woman (open in new tab) shared her response to "porn and social media telling men that bodies like Billie Eilish's are "fat" and not completely normal." And YouTuber Jessie Paege (opens in new tab) shared her thoughts: "Billie Eilish is beautiful! Billie Eilish is beautiful! Please don't shame her or anyone else. Body shaming is not "news" or "gossip." I couldn't agree more.
Eilish herself weighed in with a cheeky Instagram post of her winking at the camera while walking past her hand at the Grammys, and reposted the Chidi Dulu video. Not everyone has a wagon in the back. Boobs droop, especially after breastfeeding. Instagram is not real.
While it's frustrating to see Billie become a target for body shaming, what is empowering is that she has clearly inspired her followers to speak out against it. Earlier this year, the No Time To Die singer took a strong stand against body-shamers (open in new tab) on the opening night of her Where Do We Go world tour in Miami.
During the concert, Billie shared a video of a jacket-removal interlude to make a statement about self-empowerment and the criticism women face. In it, she said:
You tell 'em, Billie.
