Lana Del Rey gets slammed for wearing a mesh face mask to a meet and greet with fans.
Lana Del Rey wore a mesh face mask at a Los Angeles book signing, sparking outrage on social media. According to The Independent, Del Rey showed up at the Barnes & Noble in Grove on Friday (opens in new tab) to read from her poetry book, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass, and meet fans. She wore a glittery mesh face mask, but this mask did not seem to provide a barrier against respiratory droplets.
The Los Angeles County guidance (opens in new tab) states that everyone should wear a cloth face mask "when interacting with others outside of the family in public or private spaces." According to The Independent, Del Rey's sister, Caroline "Chuck" Grant, said the singer was "negative" and "stood more than six feet away." However, photos obtained by PopCrave show Del Rey standing next to fans and in direct contact with at least one of them.
Del Rey's fans accused her of wearing a mask that she pulled down below her mouth during the reading. One fan wrote on Instagram, "YOU MAKE IT SO HARD TO STAN PLEASEE WEAR A PROPER MASK." I try so hard to love you but please wear a real mask ...... "I also had a comment that said. A third wrote: "Girl, we are in the middle of a pandemic."
Del Rey has yet to address the criticism directly. On Sunday, however, she posted a video of herself wearing a cloth mask and reciting poetry in her car. One fan commented, "Finally a decent mask."
