The Duchess of Cambridge (opens in new tab) has been given a new role!
This morning, Buckingham Palace announced in a press release that Duchess Kate has been appointed co-chair of the British Scout Association and will work alongside Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. The Scout Association helps approximately 500,000 people between the ages of 6 and 25 from all walks of life to develop the skills they need for the future, making it one of the largest co-ed youth movements in the country.
The Duchess' first appearance as co-president was a visit to the 12th Northolt Scout Group in West London to hear how the Scouts have adapted to the global pandemic of recent months. Kate kept her attire casual, opting for dark skinny jeans, a blue oxford button-down, a black vest, and lace-up hiking boots with chunky heels. In a video shared on the Kensington Palace Twitter account (opens in new tab), the royal can be seen talking with fellow scouts, participating in arts and crafts, and even sitting down to roast marshmallows.
"For many children and youth, the Scout Association plays an important role in building relationships and developing the skills they need to be successful in later life...When I volunteered with Scouts in Anglesey eight years ago, I saw the impact Scouting has on young people to support their community and achieve their goals. I was struck by the huge impact Scouting has in helping young people to support their communities and achieve their goals," the Duchess said in a statement. 'I am delighted to be working with the Duke of Kent as co-president of the association and look forward to working with Scouts across the country who are striving to make a positive difference in society.'
Kate was also presented with the Silver Wolf Award, the highest award given by the Scout Association, highlighting her dedication to the association. The Duchess has volunteered with the Scouts in recent years and in 2019 visited the Scouts' headquarters in Gilwell Park to celebrate the centenary of the site. She has also volunteered with a local Scout group in Anglesey, North Wales, where she and Prince William first lived as newlyweds.
