Beyonce's birthday is one to be celebrated with great fanfare, and the pop star's 39th birthday earlier this month was no exception.

According to E! News (opens in new tab), the "Mood 4 Eva" singer and her family flew to the Croatian island to celebrate her birthday on September 4. She was accompanied by her husband Jay Z and their three children, daughter Blue Ivy, 8, and twins Rumi and Sir Carter, 3.

"The Carter family celebrated Beyonce's birthday with a sailing trip along the Croatian coast in the Adriatic. They spent most of the time on their superyacht, Rana, which is anchored on the Dubrovnik Riviera," a source told E! News. They then "went on a small boat to the heart-shaped island of Garesniak for a birthday meal," they revealed.

Beyonce has yet to release any photos from this year's birthday celebration, which is not surprising given the superstar's private tendencies. However, sources say that she and her family enjoyed a private getaway.

"They went to the beach several times, where they took pictures of the beach and each other. They all had a great time."

Through her website, Singer wrote a message thanking friends and fans for their birthday wishes.

"I want to thank everyone for the birthday love and wonderful birthday wishes!" she wrote, along with a throwback baby picture of herself. She also encouraged fans to remember "IT'S VIRGO SEASON" and pasted it over the vintage photo as a fun reminder.
