Meghan Markle and Prince Harry financially independent from Prince Charles
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced on social media in January their plans to step down as senior royals, saying they would "continue to fully support Her Majesty the Queen" while "striving to become financially independent" from the royal family. And they have now achieved that goal. Along with repaying the cost of renovating their home in England, Frogmore Cottage (opens in new tab), they are no longer receiving financial support from Prince Charles, a source told People (opens in new tab).
On Monday, a spokesman for Prince Harry announced that he had repaid the £2.4 million in public funds spent on the renovation of Frogmore Cottage. The donation, initially provided by Prince Harry, fully covered the costs of the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, Her Majesty's estate.
Speaking to People, a source close to the Sussexes said that while they had previously helped Prince Charles with "some of his ongoing living expenses" after he moved to the United States, after signing a multimillion-dollar Netflix deal (opens in new tab), financial assistance She said she no longer receives any financial support. In a statement last week, Meghan and Harry announced that in their partnership with the streaming platform, they would focus on "creating content that informs and gives hope."
