Chrissy Teigen shares a story about when she and John Legend were racially discriminated against.

Chrissy Teigen's new Marie Claire cover (opens in new tab) recounts the time in 2010 when she and John Legend were tailed and harassed by two white men while driving in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It was, she says, "a terrible, scary experience." [I was driving slowly, looking for John's godmother's house. Two guys in a pickup truck were trying to talk to us, flashing their lights," Teigen recalls. When we pulled over, they were like, "What are you looking for?" And we were like, "We gave them our address. They literally were like, 'Get out of here!' ' and followed us all the way to her driveway. We knocked on the door and went inside, and they got out of their car and stared at us."

"That was my first experience seeing what happens to black men every day," Teigen says. 'It was a horrifying event, and it could have gone from bad to worse very quickly. I sobbed for hours afterward, and I noticed that John wasn't emotional about it. He had obviously been through it before, so it was really upsetting to see that he wasn't too thrown by it."[3

Teigen sees the same overt racism in 2020 and believes that Trump has increased the racism that was previously hidden. She says, "People feel more confident in professing their racism because they have the backing of the president."

"I am going to fight to get this person out of office because we cannot have four years of such simmering hatred in America."
