Princess Beatrice's wedding dress on display at Windsor Castle
Here's a date for the diary of an avid royal fan (that is, if a transatlantic trip somehow becomes feasible again in the very near future): from September 24 to November 22, Princess Beatrice's wedding dress, along with a replica Valentino wedding shoe and bouquet At her secret wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on July 17, Beatrice wore a vintage Norman Hartnell dress from the Queen's own closet, and her tiara was also loaned by the Queen.
In a press release announcing the exhibition (opens in new tab), the Royal Collection Trust describes Beatrice's borrowed dresses as having been impressively altered by the Queen's dresser, Angela Kelly, and designer Stewart Purvin also revealed that they were all reversible. Here is exactly what Kelly and Parvin did: "The silhouette of the full skirt was softened to create a more contemporary and simple shape, while the underskirt and petticoat were reworked and bound with silk tulle. Triple organza short sleeves were added to the straps, and vintage diamantes were embroidered to match the original Hartnell embroidery design.
According to the Royal Collection Trust, Beatrice's wedding shoes, which she wore to Kate Middleton and Prince William's 2011 wedding, may count as "Something Old" for the royal family. Her bouquet, designed by Patrice Van Helden and recreated with artificial flowers for the Windsor Castle exhibition, included "jasmine, pale pink and cream sweet peas, Royal Porcellina spray roses, pink O'Hara roses, pink "wax flowers" ( Chamelaucium uncinatum), baby pink astilbe, and a sprig of myrtle in keeping with royal tradition". Fancy.
