Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to reimburse British taxpayers for Frogmore Cottage renovations

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (opens in new tab) have faced much criticism during their time as full-time working royals and since leaving the royal family earlier this year. One of the most consistent complaints from those who disagree with the way the Sussexes have handled their role in the royal family concerns their Windsor home, Frogmore Cottage (opens in new tab).

Harry and Meghan ordered extensive renovations (open in new tab) that cost £2.4 million in public funds (open in new tab) when they moved from Kensington Palace. Many are calling on the couple to repay the money spent on updating the house, which is no longer their primary residence (open in new tab), especially since they moved to the United States after leaving the royal family.

Today, a spokesman for the Sussexes confirmed that Harry has repaid all public funds spent on the renovations (opens in new tab). Royal correspondent Rebecca English (open in new tab) reported the announcement in a series of tweets, writing:

Omid Scobie (open in new tab), one of the authors of the Sussex couple's recent royal biography, Finding Freedom (open in new tab), also confirmed the news, adding that royal officials confirmed that Harry had voluntarily repaid the money.

The news comes just days after Harry and Meghan (open in new tab) announced that they had signed a more than $100 million deal with Netflix (open in new tab).
