Jameela Jamil responds to the flood of stories about her relationship with Meghan Markle.
Over the weekend, "The Good Place" actress Jamila Jamil and her boyfriend, musician James Blake, visited Prince Harry and Meghan's new home in Montecito, The Sun reported (opens in new tab).
"Jamila and James drove from Los Angeles to Montecito and spent time with Meghan and Harry," a source told the paper,
"They even went for a walk on the beach, but Meghan and Harry did not walk out together."
The Sun also reported that the couple had a "very nice time" together.
The paper also noted a tweet Jamil sent about Prince Andrew over the weekend.
"They may be more embarrassed by Andrew, an alleged exclusive pedo who was good friends with a sex offender, than by Americans supporting women voting in their own country and loosely referring to the importance of democracy," she wrote, noting that Meghan promoted the importance of voting before that 2020 election She noted that she has faced criticism for doing so and that Prince Andrew is friends with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The queen's second son has denied allegations of sexual impropriety.
The Sun article spawned subsequent articles in a number of publications, and Jamil is currently on Twitter refuting rumors that he and Princess Meghan have become "best friends" and are being sequestered together.
"LOL. Spent romantic vacation with boyfriend at hotel in SB (Santa Barbara) ...... And for 8 days I've been looking at articles with increasingly ridiculous stories, none of them consistent, none of them making any sense ...... (All to create the lie that she is now controlling me and coordinating my every move)". Jamil wrote on Twitter.
"I have only met this woman once. Ever. #BestFriends These articles are a strategy to blame her for my words and every move. And trying to discredit my calling them out, as if it's not *fact* that they are bullying and harassing her for clicks and fostering Britain's already robust xenophobia."
[17The actress then accused the British media of racist coverage of Meghan in the past.
"As the conversation around racism in the British media heats up, they are eager to justify years of racist abuse/harassment by turning the public against her based on lies and rumors. Remember how she was imprinted with "EXOTIC DNA to thicken her royal blue blood?" she wrote.
At this time, it is unclear when Jamil and Meghan spent time together. However, Jamil once spoke about a phone call he received from the Duchess last year after she was published in British Vogue (opens in new tab), which Meghan guest edited. Jamil told Grazia that the royal (opens in new tab) was "warm, kind, and actually very funny" on that call. She added, "I had never met her, but we chatted very openly."
