Prince Harry opens up about his last phone call with Princess Diana
Yesterday, August 31, marked the 23rd anniversary of Princess Diana's death in a Paris car crash. Prince Harry and Prince William have spoken several times about the magnitude of their loss, but none more candidly than in Our Mother Diana: Her Life and Legacy, a 2017 documentary produced with ITV and HBO to mark the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's death. As People reports (opens in new tab), Harry opened up in the documentary about his last phone call with his mother and the painful regrets he still carries.
Hours before the car crash, Princess Diana called William and Harry, who were 15 and 12 at the time. The princes were staying at Balmoral, the Queen's Scottish estate, at the time. The brothers were in the middle of a game with their cousins, so their last call was brief. If I had known it was my last chance to talk to my mother, I would have told her what I wanted to ...... Harry said in the moving documentary.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the documentary's 2017 release, Harry said he still thinks about his mother constantly. He said, "There's not a day that goes by that William and I don't wish she was still around," he said." We wonder what kind of mother she would be now, what kind of public role she would be playing, what kind of difference she would be making."
