The "Country Strong" star moved from Wanuska, Minnesota, to his mother's house in Scottsdale, Arizona, when he was 14. There, he saved his waiter tips and "hired an acting coach to help him with his speeches and script writing," he told the Evening Standard (opens in new tab).

At age 18, he left the desert to live in Los Angeles. Just a month later, Hedlund landed the role of Patroclus, Brad Pitt's cousin, in the Academy Award-nominated film Troy. Flex!

Hedlund told the Evening Standard why he graduated from high school early: "I was a high school graduate. So I graduated high school when I was 18 and moved to LA. Luckily, my first movie was 'Troy.'"

I was surprised too. Because when you meet a guy who likes poetry, it's not often that half of him looks like Hedlund.

"We'd hang out until Borders Bookstore closed and put the books back on the shelf until the next day," Hedlund recalls in Details (open in new tab) about his after-school activities as an Arizona high school student. 'It was safe. No one bought three copies of [Charles] Bukowski's 'Tales of Ordinary Madness' by the next afternoon." [because] instead of the teacher saying, 'I wonder what he was trying to say at this moment,' I realized this on my own."

Years later, he is still writing, admitting to this magazine that he is passionate about writing his journal. 'I write them out as fast as I can. I don't edit. In Brazil I wrote 70 pages. In London, 80 pages.
