Meghan Markle and Prince Harry "Admire Self-Help Author Brené Brown
In a recent video call (opens in new tab) with leaders of the Queen's Commonwealth Trust Network, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed their love for self-help guru Brené Brown, an author and professor known for her best-selling self-help books.
Brown's work was actually brought up by another person on the call: Hunter Johnson, founder of Man Cave in Australia, a mental health charity that promotes positive masculinity. He quoted her as saying, "Vulnerability brings connection, and connection is why we are here. It brings meaning and purpose to our lives." Johnson then quoted Tristan Hunter of the Human Engineering Center, apparently another Sussex-approved opinion leader.
"It's great that you're quoting Brené Brown and bringing up Tristan Harris as well.
"We love them!" Prince Harry said. Princess Meghan followed suit.
The royal couple is in good company. Brown's other famous fans include Oprah Winfrey, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jennifer Aniston. According to her website (opens in new tab), the author's research centers on "courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy."
Harry also spoke about vulnerability on the call and said, "If we can all show our vulnerability, it does not mean you are weak. Rather, it would show most of your strength."
The Duke has long been an advocate for mental health and several years ago joined forces with Prince William and Kate Middleton to launch the charity Heads Together (opens in new tab).
