Fans were shocked to learn Friday night that Chadwick Boseman passed away (open in new tab) at the young age of 43. Boseman was best known for playing Black Panther (open in new tab) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he also played real-life black icons such as Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, and James Brown.

The family of the deceased actor broke the news in a statement shared on his social media accounts, explaining that he had been privately battling colon cancer since he was diagnosed in 2016:
