Meghan Markle Says Prince Harry's Feminism is a 'Beautiful Example' for Archie
Meghan Markle recently teamed up with Gloria Steinem (opens in new tab) to talk about the importance of voting, discussing voter suppression, representation, and vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris (more here (opens in new tab)) Their conversation also spanned feminism, with Meghan spoke of her husband, Prince Harry, as a proud feminist and called him a "beautiful role model" for her son Archie.
"As I've gotten older, I've come to understand that being a feminist and being feminine are not mutually exclusive. I've come to understand that being a feminist and being feminine are not in conflict, and you can use femininity and feminine identity in different layers," explained the Duchess of Sussex, Steinem. You can be a feminist, you can be masculine, you can be a man," she replied.
"Like my husband!" Princess Meghan said. Princess Meghan said. Like my husband!" Said Meghan! It's really important to me that you know that. Steinem appreciated it: "It was wonderful," she said.
Princess Meghan spoke of her appreciation for her son Archie being raised by a feminist father. She said, "Looking at our son, he is very comfortable with his father being a feminist as part of his own identification. He has no shame in being a defender of the basic human rights of all people (women included, of course)."
"And be a nurturing parent. Because then your son will grow up knowing that loving and nurturing is OK," Steinem added. Megan replied, "Well said. I know it will mean a lot to my son that I share it with him."
