The Queen didn't ask her former personal chef, Darren McGrady, for pizza.
The Queen has her own personal chef (opens in new tab) who basically cooks whatever is requested. Unlike us, the Queen apparently never requests pizza.
In an interview with Us Weekly magazine (opens in new tab), former royal chef Darren McGrady (opens in new tab) opened up about the queen's eating habits and revealed that the queen never asked him to make her pizza.
"In all the years I cooked at [Buckingham] Palace, the queen never ate pizza," McGrady said. 'It wasn't until I moved to Kensington Palace that I started making pizzas.'
For the last four years of his tenure as royal chef, he cooked for the late Princess Diana (opens in new tab) and her family (including, of course, her two young sons, Prince William and Prince Harry) at Kensington Palace. And in her job as the personal chef for her two sons, pizza quickly became her specialty.
"I used to make pizza for William all the time," McGrady revealed. My second cookbook, The Royal Chef at Home, has a chicken tikka masala pizza (recipe). The pizza is a combination of the two."
The Queen's pizza-eating ways remain a mystery: in 2019, Kate Middleton made pizza with her young children for the royal engagement (opens in new tab) and was asked if the Queen herself had ever eaten pizza.
"Good question. I don't know," Kate replied (opens in new tab). 'I don't know. Maybe I'll ask her next time I see her?"
This is truly one of the great mysteries of our time.
