Why "Manifesto" Season 5 never materialized.

When NBC shut down "Manifest" in 2021, creator Jeff Lake had planned a six-season run, but had only finished three seasons. Later, Lake told Deadline, "It seems like a happy ending": Netflix approached Lake about reviving the series with an additional final 20 episodes. The following November, Netflix released the first 10 episodes of "Manifest" Season 4, followed on Friday by Part 2 of "Manifest" Season 4, the episode that concludes the entire series.

In other words, there will be no "Manifesto" Season 5. As Lake explained to Deadline, "Twenty episodes was enough to tell our complete story." Lake hinted that he considers the second half of Season 4 to be the fifth season. We decided to treat the story as if it were two 10-episode seasons," he told EW."

Even some of the lead actors did not know the ending of the series until years after the show began: Melissa Roxburgh, who plays Mikaela, told the Hollywood Reporter, "They made us shoot part of the ending in season 3. They made us film part of the ending in season three. I don't think anything we shot was used, but Jeff thought since we were filming, he could tell us more about what was going on."

Although Rake originally planned six seasons on NBC, according to the Hollywood Reporter, he proposed three new versions of the series after season three to Netflix: a two-hour movie, a six-episode series, and a 20-episode season He only did so (Netflix apparently chose the latter). Roxburgh said of the show's cancellation and subsequent renewal: "When I heard it was going to be 20 episodes, I was angry, happy, sad, everything."

However, this chapter of "Manifesto" ended with part two of season four, but Josh Dallas, who plays Ben, teased the possibility of a spin-off to the Hollywood Reporter: "I think there's a big sequel or spin-off potential here. Maybe we go to the future and see Eden, who is about 21 years old, navigating the world, or maybe we follow the young passengers." Maybe we'll go back to 2013 and get deeper into the investigation with Vance."
