New Dior Documentary Reveals Luxury Fragrances

The world of fragrances is notoriously elusive. Marketing materials, including print ads and television commercials, focus on the emotional and often sensual concept of how a fragrance makes consumers feel. Scenes of parties, starry nights, and women in ball gowns taking off their heels and running barefoot across meadows abound. So fragrance is undeniably a beauty treat, and brands of course provide information about the top, heart, and base notes of their products. However, many people (myself included) are still curious about how fragrances are actually made. This includes details such as how raw materials are sourced, how they are combined, how perfumers are inspired to create their own creations, etc.

And now, the veil is finally being lifted. A film directed by Mathieu Menoux detailing the latest reinvention of Dior's iconic and popular J'adore fragrance has been released, titled "Inside the Dream Dior" and featuring iconic creatives from the brand, including Burberry, Narciso Rodriguez, Elie Saab, Elisabeth Arden, and more. It follows Francis Kurkjian, the French perfumer behind iconic creations for brands such as Burberry, Narciso Rodriguez, Elie Saab, and Elizabeth Arden. Kurkjian has also created artistic museum installations related to fragrances, and has been honored by the French government for his artistic achievements. He once recreated Marie Antoinette's favorite perfume at the Palace of Versailles!

"Inside the Dream Dior" gives viewers a front row seat to the creation of the fragrance, from inspiration to challenge to working with local artisans in sourcing premium materials. The film has already been acclaimed by critics and beauty enthusiasts for its stunning cinematography and valuable insights into the creative process of a traditional fashion and beauty brand. Currently available on Amazon Prime and with a running time of just over an hour, it is the perfect film for a cozy evening.
