Lily Gladstone's 2024 Oscar hairstyle includes a secret nod to her legacy.
Lily Gladstone was already making history before she arrived on the 2024 Oscar Red Carpet: The Flower Killer Moon Star is the first indigenous woman to be nominated for Best Actress. To make the evening even more memorable, and potentially dress for a historic victory, the actress chose a hairstyle intended to be timeless and eye-catching, while paying tribute to her legacy.
Gladstone worked with celebrity hairstylist Mark Mena, a gentle wave of sideways parting that rolled past Gladstone's shoulders Mena worked closely with Gladstone's stylists to ensure classic glamour inspired by Hollywood complemented her dress. It's a great way to get the most out of your life.
"For tonight's appearance, we wanted to make sure that the look was timeless," Mena explains to Marie Claire. "This is a historic moment and we wanted Lily to shine. Her hair is down and soft and loose waves work beautifully in her custom Gucci gown.
To create a stunning look, Mena first applied Sister Sky Mink Eye Soft Nourishing Mist to Gladstone's still wet hair and was followed by a no-regrets heat protection & taming spray with the not-better Younger's Lift-me-Up Hair Thickener. Then he cut her hair and blew it off with a round brush for balance of volume and smoothness.
Mena especially wanted to enhance the length of the Gladstone in creating her appearance, so he then followed the hair extensions from great length to her punk, which they shaped to look like long layers with swooping side parts.
"When I work with Lily, I need to make sure that what I'm using is genuine and ethical," he says, noting that Great Lengths is ethically sourced and B-corp certified.
Once Mena styled the extensions, the hairstylist used a hair iron to create waves and brushed the curls to give them a soft, natural look. Finally, Mena finished her hair with sister Sky Sleek+ Shine Styler oil to ensure shine all night long.
The Finishing Touch "As a tribute to Gladstone's indigenous roots, Mena shoved a thin microblade into the actor's voluminous hair.
While the on-trend details are barely visible, Mena says it's meant to be a kind of lucky charm for the actress - but as a fan and critic favorite, she'll hardly need it.
