Know Supergoop sunscreen. To date, they have never launched a single product without it — even their lip balm, CC cream and eyeshadow come complete with at least SPF30. That said, it should not be too big of a surprise that their latest product is a thoughtful take on colored sunscreen. Officially launched on Sephora today, Protec (tint) Daily SPF Tint offers protection against the Sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays (given) in addition to visible light. 

"Much of what inspired this product came from conversations with dermatologists about the emerging science behind colored SPF"Supergoop. Founder Holly Sagard shares it exclusively with Marie Claire. "We are learning that hyperpigmentation can be caused by visible light in particular — and one of the easiest ways to protect the skin from it is to use shades.1"

It's true: the shades that come from zinc oxide (this formula contains 13.58%) and iron oxide are effective in reducing environmental stress on the skin. That's why almost every 5-star colored spf on the market uses it as a filter. What sets this Supergoop? But apart from other cult favorites, there is the rest of its composition. "We took advantage of the benefits of mineral zinc oxide and translucent chemical activators to get a strong, lightweight and broad-spectrum SPF while eliminating the pale cast that is often found in mineral-only skin tones," explains SVP Regina Maguire of the brand's product development.

Protection is needed first and foremost, but a small number of ingredients have been added, such as ectoin, hyaluronic acid infused clay and quora noni, to balance oil production. "White clay draws out impurities, but hyaluronic acid draws in moisture so it dries less," explains Ginger King, a cosmetic chemist. "Quora noni is a biotech component that balances the skin's microbiome, leading to a more even complexion."

Even though this formula is skin care first, it really maintains the payoff of elegant cosmetics. The coverage is on the thin side, but it still provides some degree of coverage and a natural finish. It's surprisingly buildable and can be added to your hand, beauty blender, or brush — my personal go-to if I'm going to achieve fuller coverage.
