When a renewal for Season 3 was announced in December 2022, the show's four stars - Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Rene Rapp, and Aaliyah Channel Scott - seemed guaranteed to return for one more season. However, in June 2023, Deadline reported that Rapp had decided to leave the show. She will still appear briefly in a Season 3 episode to close out Leighton Murray's arc. Rapp later confirmed the news on Instagram.

"'College Girls' moved me to L.A. and introduced me to some of my favorite people. It's been two and a half years since then, and it's allowed me to get to know everyone and this community," she wrote. 'But playing Layton has changed my life. Playing Layton has changed my life. I hope she felt a little bit like that about everyone else, too. She's a small part of what we represent, but even a small part is important. Without her and everyone else, I wouldn't be half the person I am today. I love that bitch more than you can possibly imagine. I am so excited about this season and can't wait for you all to see what happens to her and the girls."

With Season 3 just around the corner, Max confirmed which series regulars will be returning in the new film: Pauline Chalamet (Kimberly Finkle), Aliyah Chanel Scott (Whitney Chase), Amrit Kaur (Bella Malhotra), Christopher Meyer (Canaan Green), Ilaria Isorelis Paulino (Lila Flores), and Renica Williams (Willow).

On April 2, 2024, Deadline reported that Essex College will welcome a transfer student in season 3. Gracie Lawrence joined the cast and will play new student Casey. She is best known for co-fronting the soul-pop band Lawrence with her brother Clyde. On the acting side, she has also appeared in the Netflix film "Moxie" and the TV shows "Billions," "One Dollar," and "Younger."

Max has not officially announced a premiere date, but streamers apparently plan to air Season 3 in 2024; SLOCG is also included in the December 2023 sizzle reel titled "Films to Watch in 2024." In other filming news, Ilaria Isoreiris Paulino revealed in an X/Twitter post that filming for the Season 3 premiere began last February.

Seasons 1 and 2 of SLOCG premiered in November (in 2021 and 2022, respectively), so we may see the show return this winter.
