Read MoreKate Beckinsale says she is tired of being "accused of having indistinguishable plastic surgery" and of being continually claimed to be "obsessed with youth."
On Sunday, May 5, the Underworld actress shared two videos of herself on Instagram, in which she simply said she was "20 years younger" with a lengthy caption firing back at those who continue to claim she has had plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures.
"I hate to add to this story, but I do so because over time, insidious bullying of any kind takes a toll," Beckinsale wrote. 'These videos could be 20 years old, or even longer. Every time I post something, and incidentally this has been the case since I was about 30 years old, I am accused of having indistinguishable plastic surgery, of using Botox, of using fillers, of being obsessed with looking young.
Beckinsale went on to clarify that she "doesn't actually do any of those things," and even "went to the trouble of having a plastic surgeon assure me that I don't and haven't."
Beckinsale wrote that despite her efforts to squash the rumors, people continue to accuse her of looking "plastic" and "indistinguishable."
"It happens constantly, and it's usually women who are doing it," she added. 'A lot of things happen in life. I discovered my father was dead when I was five, so I don't worry too much about aging; I spent most of my teens and a good part of my twenties absolutely crippled by panic attacks and intense anxiety that I was going to die of a heart attack, too."
She added, "I'm not sure I've ever had a heart attack.
Beckinsale's father, Richard Beckinsale, died of a heart attack in 1979. Her mother, Judy Low, eventually remarried, and the actress became very close to her father-in-law, Roy Battersby; in January, Beckinsale announced via Instagram that her father-in-law had also passed away after a "brief illness"
and that her mother, Judy Low, had died of a heart attack.
Later, while attending the Kings Trust 2024 Global Gala in New York City on Thursday, May 2, Beckinsale revealed that her father-in-law had died of cancer.
"My mom has cancer and my stepfather just passed away from cancer," she said at the time.
In an Instagram post, Beckinsale explained that as a result of losing her father at a young age, she was "frequently in the emergency room and almost completely immobilized by that anxiety at that time in my life."
"The fact that one of the main things that teases me is the assumption that I can't cope with the idea of getting older is so ironic," she continued, "when my all-consuming fear was that I never thought I would see the end of my 20s. As you can see from these two videos, what's different is that I lived in England, I was fair-skinned, and like many of us in our late teens and twenties, I had a plump face."
Despite the lengthy Instagram caption and undeniable vulnerability, Beckinsale wrote that she made the post "knowing full well that it would have absolutely no effect."
"I'm not going to stop," she added.
Still, she said she decided to share the post regardless "because it's bullying to constantly accuse someone of something they didn't do, no matter what they look like, or to obsess over youth when in fact I am currently obsessed with surviving loss."
Beckinsale ended her post with a simple request: "Please stop.
