Meghan Markle Praises Prince Harry as Proud Wife "You See Why I'm Married To Him?" at Engagement Ceremony in Nigeria
[Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in Nigeria right now. It has definitely been a tough week in the UK for Harry, with highs (celebrating the 10th anniversary of The Invictus Games) and lows (family drama).According to People, Harry and Meghan spoke at a mental health summit hosted by the GEANCO Foundation at the Lightway Academy in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, the first stop on the tour. After Harry gave a heartfelt speech on mental health, Princess Meghan was met with cheers when she took the microphone and showed her proud wifey attitude, saying, "Now you know why I married him." Princess Meghan added, "It's so touching because he tells the truth."
What was Harry's statement that provoked such a response? Here's part of it: "There is more stigma around the world about mental health than you might think. 'Too many people don't want to talk about it because it's invisible. It's something in the mind that you can't see. It's not like a broken leg or a broken wrist. It's something that's still relatively obscure. But every person in this room, young or old, every person has mental health. So in order to take care of others, you have to take care of yourself. And others have to be able to take care of themselves in order to take care of you. That's the way it is. And there is no shame in being able to admit that you are having a bad day."
In her own speech, Princess Meghan, wearing a Heidi Merrick peach maxi dress (coincidentally "Windsor" style) and Emme Parsons sandals, also addressed mental health, telling the crowd, "Each of you has a story. We all have our own stories. And there is no shame in each of your stories. Even on the hardest or darkest of days, each of you are there, and all of you are pillars of your strength."
Princess Meghan then spoke about her daughter, Princess Lilibet, who will turn 3 next month. She revealed on her podcast "Archetypes" that her genealogy test revealed that she is 43 percent Nigerian. 'And we see it in you. Interestingly enough, so does our daughter Lili. She is much smaller than yours truly and is about to turn three. A few weeks ago she looked at me and saw herself in my eyes. She said, 'Mom, I see myself in you. Now she was speaking literally, but I took those words to heart in a different way. I thought, 'Yes, I see me in you and you see me in you. But as I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well'. [It is a great honor to be with you all on this first visit to Nigeria. We believe in you. We believe in your future. We believe in you to continue to tell your stories and to be honest with each other. You do not have to suffer in silence. Just make sure you start with your mental health by taking care of yourself and really talking about what is going on for you: ...... We are there for each other, even in the saddest moments."
People notes that this is "the couple's first official international tour since stepping down from their royal role in 2020," but they have commitments in Nigeria through the weekend. Harry and Meghan were invited to Nigeria by the country's top military official, the Chief of Defense Staff.
Princess Meghan acknowledged her heritage today in a sweet note left on the visitors' register at the Defense Headquarters in Abuja, saying, "With gratitude for the support of the Invictus community. And thank you for welcoming me into your home. 0]
Harry noticed her distinctive calligraphic style of handwriting and noted, "She writes beautifully." [Meghan was in a white pantsuit from Altuzarra, while Harry was in teal green, the color of the Nigerian flag.
