After years of roller coaster, King Frederick and Queen Mary of Denmark celebrate 20 years of marriage in very casual photos

To say the least, this 1 year of marriage between King Frederick of Denmark and Queen Mary has been interesting. From the best (Frederick and Mary ascended the throne in May after the surprise abdication of their mother Queen Margrethe) to the lowest (rumors of a lasting affair), the Danish kings and queens marked their landmark 20th anniversary with surprisingly casual photos aboard the royal ship Dannebrog.

5 May 14 It's been 20 years since the royal couple said I would do so, and the Danish Royal Family shared a new photo of the couple wearing a navy vest, Frederick's arm wrapped around his wife's shoulder. "Within hours, the royal couple will arrive in Oslo and start a state visit to Norway after sailing on the royal ship Dannebrog from Denmark yesterday," the courtier captioned the Instagram photo. The photo on instagram is shown as follows: "The arrival in the Norwegian capital also happens on a very special day. It's the 20th wedding anniversary of the king and Queen," they wrote along with the heart emoji.

Per person, "The trip to Norway marked the couple's second state visit in a few days, which kicked off the first official state visit of the new royal reign last week in Sweden," reports the outlet. Frederick and Mary are traveling abroad to commemorate the close relationship between the Nordic monarchy, the statement said, and the tour will be concluded on May 6 and 7 in the Faroe Islands and Greenland, both in the Kingdom of Denmark.

On their anniversary night, the couple dress their best for a gala dinner at the Royal Palace in Norway. A difficult time for the couple has come after allegations emerged that Prince Frederick was having an affair after being photographed with Mexican・born socialite Geneveva Casanova in Madrid, Spain, on May 11 last year. Casanova denied all allegations of a romantic relationship, and just 2 months later, after the death of Queen Elizabeth in 2022-9, Margrethe, the last remaining female monarch in the world, surprised the world by announcing his abdication after 52 years of succession to the throne. In doing so, she became the first Danish sovereign to voluntarily abdicate in nearly 900 years.

Frederick and Mary had a chance encounter during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. So Mary Donaldson, then an advertising executive in Australia, met "Fred" at a slip-in in Sydney's Darling Harbour. "Something clicked," Mary later said in a 2005 interview. "It wasn't like fireworks in the sky, it was exciting.

Not long after they met, Mary learned that she had just met the Crown Prince of Denmark, the heir to the Danish throne. "When we first met, we shook hands," Mary said. "I didn't know he was the Prince of Denmark. Half an hour later, someone came to me and said, "Do you know who these people are?"

Less than four years later, the couple—who dated long distances before getting engaged—married at Copenhagen Cathedral on May 14, 2004. According to the Daily Mail, "With tears in his eyes at the altar, Frederick, the future King of Denmark, from today "Mary is mine and I am hers. I love her, and I will protect her with all my love.

The romance continued at their wedding reception, with Frederick toasting the bride and saying, "We were only in Australia two days before our fate was sealed. "But your brilliance has shone clearly for me since our very first meeting. Since then I have been blinded by it and completely dependent on it. The joy and strength that you give me is like the daytime sun, melting all doubts and darkness on Earth with its radiance. And like the moon at night, you will shine with a watchful and delicate beam of kindness that will extinguish the mischief and deceit used by the symbols of darkness.

The King and Queen are the parents of 4 children, including Crown Prince Christian, who will one day inherit the Danish throne.
