Katy Perry shares an edited version of Harrison Butker's graduation speech in honor of Pride Month

Katy Perry decided to make Harrison Butker's highly scrutinized graduation speech more inclusive in honor of Pride Month.

On Saturday, 6 May 1, the singer shared an edited version of the Kansas City Chief Kicker's commencement speech at Benedictine University, splashing out a video of Batker's original comments to look as if the highly controversial kicker spoke in favor of the LGBTQ+ community and women working outside the house. Ising.

"Congratulations to the women who are present today for their amazing achievements. You should be proud of everything you have achieved up to this point in your young life," " said Butker at the graduation Festival, showing that his speech "How many of you are sitting here now, trying to cross this stage, and all the things you are trying to get in your career." Pro I say all this to you because I have seen it firsthand, how happy someone can support a woman and not to say that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you bring to this world.

"The road ahead is bright, things are changing, societies are changing, and people, young and old, are embracing diversity, fairness and inclusiveness," the edited video continues. Having said that, I want to say to all of you a happy proud month and a festive class of 2024."

"I've fixed this for my girls, my graduates, and my gays — you can do anything, congratulations, and happy pride," Perry wrote in the caption of the post.

Unlike Perry's edited version, Butker in his speech originally "dared to guess" that young female graduates in the audience were most excited about getting married and having children, rather than believing what he called a "satanic lie" in pursuing a career.

The NFL Kicker also encouraged audiences to "stop pretending" that IVF and surrogacy are "normal," arguing that contraception is not "natural" and urging audiences to reject "the tyranny of diversity, fairness and inclusion" while attacking the LGBTQ+ community.

"I'm sure the AP reporters couldn't imagine that their attempts to reprimand and embarrass places and people like Benedictine here would not be met with anger," Butker said at the time.

Butker's original graduation speech was hit with swift backlash and condemnation online and elsewhere, The Chiefs kicker doubled down on his comments while speaking at the "Courage Under Fire" gala in Nashville, Tennessee.

"If it wasn't clear that timeless Catholic values were hated by many, it is now," he said at the time.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes may not agree with his comments, but insisted that the kicker was simply expressing his opinion.

"When you're in the locker room, there are a lot of people from different areas of life and they have a lot of different views on everything," Mahomes said at a recent press conference. "We are not always going to agree...But I understand who he is and he is trying to do whatever he can to guide people in the right direction.”
