Dolly Parton focuses on Beyonce's country album and the unique Jolene cover
The Queen of the Country has been weighing in officially on Beyonce's cover of her iconic 1973 hit song "Jolene"."
In a recent interview with E! News, Dolly Parton admitted that she was somewhat surprised to learn that the cover of Queen Bee's "Jolene" did not include her original lyrics, but instead was a completely different rendition of the 70s version.
"I think it was very bold for her," Parton told the publication. "When they said they'd do 'Jolene', I expected it to be my regular thing, but it wasn't, but I love what she did to it. And as a songwriter, you love the fact that people do your songs no matter how they do them.
Parton continued, saying that Beyonce "wasn't going to ask other women like me.""
"'Don't steal my man.(Instead of Beyonce singing) ***, get out here, b****. You will not steal mine.
Beyonce's take on "Jolene" was a bit of a shock to the 78-year-old country music star, but she kept saying she was "proud" of the singer's entire Cowboy Carter album.
"I thought she did a great job in country music, but I thought it was great," she explained. "And I was just happy she did Jolene."Of course, I would have liked to have heard how she did it in the original way. But, of course, you know, it's Beyonce. Yeah, her life is different from mine.
Parton recorded the "Jolene" interlude named "Dolly P" for Beyonce's country music album and told E! The news the pair conveyed when the album came out, when I was doing some of the little things to put the album down."And we were sending each other flowers and little love notes and so on," she continued. "So, yeah, it's all good.
Earlier this year, Beyonce released her first country album, saying on Instagram that "it took more than five years to make."
"It came from experiences many years ago that I didn't feel welcome...And it was very clear that I wasn't," she wrote in the caption of the post, alluding to her appearance at the 2016 Country Music Awards.
"But because of that experience, I delved deeper into the history of country music and studied our rich music archive," she continued. "It's good to see how music can connect so many people around the world, and to be able to amplify the voices of those who have devoted much of their lives to educating our musical history.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cowboy Carter is expected to be a candidate for next year's Grammy Awards. If so, Parton said to E! News She would like to join Beyonce on stage for a duet performance.
"Of course, if I'm available, if I don't get caught up in something that I can't get out of, yeah, that would be great," Parton said. That is, who does not want to sing "Jolene" with Beyonce?”
