Padma Lakshmi claimed that her stretch marks and scars will not be edited from the new lingerie photo shoot
Padma Lakshmi has appeared in a new photography campaign for Naked Essentials, promoting her own line of lingerie, room wear and swimwear.
In the stunning photos, Lakshmi's stretch marks and scars on her arm are clearly visible, and what she describes was very important to her.
"At a very young age, I learned how arbitrary beauty standards," she explained to people in a new interview surrounding the brand campaign.
"I told them, 'Don't take out my scars, and don't take out my inoculation marks, and don't take out my thigh and bottom stretch marks,' because I have them," she continued.
Lakshmi revealed that she took steps to get the best look and feel for her campaign, including prioritising a balanced diet and exercise and getting a lymphatic drainage massage before filming. But she did not want to edit the marks on her body to set an example of body acceptance.
"I'm trying to tell my daughter that clean skin is deep," she explained. "If you can bring something to the table that has nothing to do with what you look like, or build something that makes sense to others on top of it, you're ahead of the game.
The TV personality shares her daughter Krishna, 14, with former Adam Del.
Lakshmi worked with Bare Necessities to create a collection that wanted to give confidence to women of all ages and of diverse body types.
"I designed a collection that feels work for everyone, but I wanted to pay special attention to women with larger bust sizes," she said in a press release.
"I hope this collection encourages women of all ages and sizes to feel sexy and feminine. Lingerie is not only in the 20s range with a perfect body. I feel more confident in my body than I ever did when I was a modeling lingerie of that age. I want women to value these styles and use them in different ways in and out of the bedroom.
The collection can be shopped at Bare Necessities from 6/6.
