Sarah Ferguson dreams of being cast in "Bridgerton," 'and even knows what specific role she wants to play.
Sarah Ferguson, literally, obviously (after all, she is a former member of the British Royal Family), but also figuratively, wears a lot of hats in her life. Her career pursuits range from being the Duchess of York to being a historical novel author, spokesperson, TV personality, producer, podcaster and charity backer, but her next dream gig is something we didn't see coming. If Ferguson had it her way, she would have been cast in the Netflix hit Bridgerton, which premiered the first part of its third season last month (the second part is heading our way to June13). "I want to go to Bridgerton," Ferguson said on this week's episode of Good Morning Britain (and Us Weekly). "I think Mrs. Penelope should have a red-haired friend like me. you don't think so?She concluded her on-air pitch with a symptom tactic of speaking it to the present: "I'm putting it there!"She said.
If you haven't seen Bridgerton for some reason, Season Three zooms in as Penelope (played by Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton) transition from longtime friends to lovers. (Slight spoiler warning.Penelope is also a redhead, as Ferguson is known for her red hair, but a fun fact that can take her to the next dinner party — Coughlan is actually a natural blonde and wears a wig worth £3 in season 55,000, Us Weekly reports.
"At the first fitting of Season three, I was teary-eyed," she told the New York Times last month. "It felt like a pretty woman's moment. They were finally going to make me shine.
Ferguson has long been a fan of the show and loved it from that first season (and is not shy to say so). "I'm obsessed with it. I think Daphne is a great character because we see her learning about life. I love the way she learns to use her strong voice. It rang with me because now is the time for women to speak.
In Bridgerton's first season, Daphne (played by Phoebe Dinebur) was Bridgerton's first brother, followed by Anthony (played by Jonathan Bailey) in Season two and Colin in Season three. "I hear they might be making a future series in Sunning Hill Park for the next 5 years, my old house," Ferguson said, adding that the show's set and costumes are both "incredible" and the casting and story line as well. "The way Betsy Beers and Shonda Rhimes created Bridgerton is amazing, and I was really impressed," she said, throwing on the pitch to turn her own historical novel piece into a screen adaptation. "I will definitely be talking to Shondaland about making her mind for the compass into a TV series."
But before that happens, we can all look forward to next Thursday, Season Three continues with Penelope and Colin's burgeoning love story unfolding "so beautiful, really romantic, really funny and so full of suspense," Coughlan told Entertainment Tonight. "It's all that people love about Bridgerton, but it's enhanced."
I know Ferguson will be tuned — probably just days after the premiere of May 16, she already binged the first part of Season Three and admitted.
