Katie Holmes is the queen of casual dressing and a loyal fan of relaxed yet sophisticated clothing. The actress can make anything that looks sophisticated and purposeful, from a huge gym T-shirt to a slip dress or a barn jacket. On 6/4, Holmes made a trend prediction while enhancing his usual loose silhouette.Butter yellow is actually the color trend that will dominate the summer of 2024, pairing surprisingly well with black accessories.

Holmes walked around Manhattan en route to dinner with her mother, in a silky buttery yellow midi dress by Lisa Yang. Currently, the lightweight and breathable dress is half off at Moda Operandi - one of the best designer sales found by the editors this week.

The actress kept the rest of the costume dark and turned off the delicate feel of the dress. The fashion icon also carried a Totome black leather handbag, wore a black Chanel double-strap Mary Jane cap to flats and coordinated with a black jacket. She finished the look with a large oval tortoiseshell sunglasses and a long gold lariat necklace. The exact credit for her butter-and-black look has not yet been shared by Holmes or her stylist, Brie Welch.

When Marie Claire spoke to trend forecasters earlier this year, she called butter yellow one of the Spring 2024 6 color trends ("Glacial blue" and "A. and Holmes seems to be committed to shade."). Just yesterday, she was wearing a butter yellow T-shirt with wide-legged white jeans, also paired again with a tortoiseshell frame and a black cap-to-ballet flat.

"Yellow is a great way to bring sunshine to your wardrobe," Caroline Maguire, Shopbop's fashion director, told Marie Claire. Many fashion houses, and Holmes seems to agree. Brands such as Altuzara, Bottega Veneta, Loewe and Jacques Muses have adopted buttery top coats, midi dresses, rompers and more. "Ura Johnson and Philip Lim also had a strong preference for this shade," Maguire added.

Driving test shade in a slinky slip dress is also a classic Holmes. This month, she wore a black slip dress with a 90s bra peeking out from below and a bequest Mary Jane on her feet.
