Selena Gomez opens up female friendship while being famous: "It's a cliché, but girls are mean."

In her recent time cover story, Selena Gomez certainly opened up about the man in her life, Benny Blanco— but she also told her girlfriend

"It's a cliche, but girls are mean," she said. "It's a very strange competition, being in the area of cool girls—and I'm just like, out there. I don't know where I'm going to belong."

Gomez is friends with many famous people — at least not Taylor Swift — but told the publication that her best friend is a casting director, producer, and real estate agent. "I love having people levelheaded around who couldn't give me two fuck about what I do," Gomez said.

She admitted that, like all of us, she suffers from loneliness, and although she is famous, she said "difficult": "You are among a large number of people and still feel lonely.""

But loneliness is part of the human experience, and Gomez tells TIME of another human experience, heartbreak, "You have to go through it," and "You can be distracted, ah," I just allow myself to have those days."

Before her seemingly very healthy relationship with Blanco (loving this for her), Gomez experienced heartbreak in the public eye after her farewell from former Justin Bieber, whom she split for the last time in 2018.
