Joe Alwyn speaks publicly about his breakup with Taylor Swift for the first time.
Actor Joe Alwyn has finally spoken publicly about his breakup with pop superstar Taylor Swift, more than a year after the breakup.
In a recent interview with the Saturday, June 15 issue of The Sunday Times, Alwyn admits that he understands "people's curiosity" about his former relationship with Swift, who writes candidly and sings openly about her love life.
"When I think about what I'm trying to say, I think and hope that anyone and everyone can relate," he continued, and when asked if he had heard Swift's new album, The Tortured Poets Department, he He admitted that he did not give a "direct answer.
"I hope everyone can relate and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years," he continued. 'It is a difficult thing to do. What is unusual and extraordinary about this situation is that after a week it suddenly became public and the outside world was able to voice its opinion."
[8Alwyn added that since the breakup, he has learned to "reconcile" not only how his relationship with Swift ended, but how it was represented in the media, adding that what was reported and what actually happened behind the scenes are two very different things. "[T]he tabloids, social media, the press, and there it is dissected, speculated upon, and skeletonized beyond recognition," he explained.
"And the truth is, on that last point, there is always a gap between what is known and what is said."
According to TODAY, Alwyn and Swift began dating in 2016, but they managed to keep much of their romantic relationship a secret; Entertainment Tonight first reported that they parted ways in April 2023, six years later.
"As everyone knows, we decided together and with each other to keep the more private details of our relationship private," Alwyn said of the split.
"It was never a commercialization and I see no reason to change that now," he continued, adding that he is now "fortunate to be in a really great place in my life, both professionally and personally."
In addition to referencing her current boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, in The Tortured Poets Department, fans have also heard Swift mention Alwyn in her new song "The Black Dog" They believe she is singing about him.
"I don't understand / Why don't you miss me / In The Black Dog / You jump up when someone plays the starting line / But she was too young to know the song / It was entwined in the magical fabric of our dreams / Old habits die screaming. Going away," Swift sings, referring to a pub in Vauxhall, London.
"There's always a gap between what is known and what is said," Alwyn said again of the album. I have never been to Vauxhall."
According to sources speaking to the Daily Mail in February, Alwyn reportedly thinks it is "fishy" that Swift wrote what some consider a "diss album" about him and their relationship.
"There's no denying that the name of her next album is a reference to Joe's WhatsApp group chat," he added." Taylor slammed him about the name when they were together. She didn't want him to think it had anything to do with her, so when he mentioned it, of course she was annoyed."
